For the past years, Ugali has dominated as Kenya’s staple food. It is consumed countrywide and therefore indicating the high demand of the product. Late last year, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) banned five maize meal brands after they were found to contain high levels of Aflatoxins (toxins produced by fungi found on agricultural crops such as maize).
The quality agency named Dola maize meal by Kitui Flour Mills, Kifaru maize meal by Alpha Grain Limited, Starehe maize meal by Pan African Grain Millers, Two Ten maize meal by Kenblest Limited and Jembe maize meal by Kensalrise Limited as some of the maize flour lacking in standards. The ban was later lifted two weeks later after in-depth research was carried out in relation to the ban.
After a research conducted by our team, we came up with a list of the best and well known millers in the country. The list isn’t ranked in any order.
