By Jared Oundo,
East Africa’s largest equipment sharing platform, Quipbank Trust Limited, has shown its solidarity and support to the county government of Narok by donating a truck to assist in the mitigation of the spread of Coronavirus. The firm is offering one ten tonne truck for a period of 6 months and it has said that it will review its contribution should the situation get worse. The renter is providing insurance and service for the maintenance of the truck. However it is expected that the Narok County government will utilize its own drivers and cover minor repairs such as punctures should they occur during this period. This donation is in addition to the trucks the company has already delivered to the National Government at Afya House.
“Besides what we are doing as an entity as a result of the outbreak to our staff, clients and community, we are pleased to directly extend our support to the national and county governments to help them respond with full force to this global pandemic. It is our prayer that we will overcome this crisis as soon as possible before it causes more havoc. Our contribution is in light of the cautionary and anticipatory measures that the government has taken since the first case of the virus was confirmed in Kenya,” said John Mogire, the Commercial Director of Quipbank.
The firm said in their commitment letter sent to the Narok County government that their focus is on the health and safety of the nation during this period hence the truck can be used accordingly to transport medical, security personnel, food stuff as well as and medical equipment to various areas as we take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.
While receiving the donation at Narok County headquarters on Monday, H.E. Samuel Ole Tunai, the Governor of Narok, said, “We thank Quipbank for their generous contribution towards the war against this epidemic. When they called us last week expressing their intention to extend a helping hand we were happy and welcomed their benevolence. Kenya is a very important country in Africa and the economy of this region depend on Kenya as the regions big brother. When Kenya is affected that means the rest of this region is affected. My administration will continue taking necessary measures to avert the situation.”
